A Roman Holiday


My friends and I had the opportunity to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey to the Eternal City with the GIFT program. Rome exceeded our wildest expectations. From staying at the Irish Roman College to exploring iconic landmarks like the Vatican, the Colosseum, and the magnificent basilicas, our Roman adventure was nothing short of extraordinary.


**The Irish Roman College: A Unique Base**


Our adventure began at the Irish Roman College, a charming and historic institution nestled in the heart of Rome. Staying there not only provided us with a cozy and comfortable home base but also immersed us in the city's rich history. We were surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, creating a serene escape from the bustling city.


**A Visit to the Vatican: A Spiritual Experience**


No trip to Rome is complete without a visit to the Vatican. Stepping into St. Peter's Basilica left us awestruck. The sheer size and beauty of the church's interior were beyond words. Climbing to the top of St. Peter's Basilica was an exhilarating experience, providing a panoramic view of the city.


**The Colosseum: An Ancient Marvel**


Our visit to the Colosseum was like stepping back in time. The grandeur of this ancient amphitheater, where gladiators once fought, left us in wonder. Imagining the cheering crowds and epic battles that once took place within its walls was an unforgettable experience.


**Exploring the Basilicas: A Spiritual Journey**


Rome is home to countless basilicas, each with its own unique charm. We were captivated by the stunning art and architecture in Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, and we felt a sense of tranquility in Basilica di Santa Maria in Trastevere. Each basilica we explored added a layer of spiritual depth to our journey.


**Between the Walls of St. Paul's**


Our trip culminated with a visit to the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. The enormous and intricate mosaics adorning the walls were truly remarkable. It was a humbling experience to stand in the presence of this historic and sacred site.


Our teenage adventure in Rome was an incredible journey of exploration, spirituality, and friendship. From the charming Irish Roman College to the breathtaking Vatican, the awe-inspiring Colosseum, and the serene basilicas, Rome offered us a taste of history and culture that we'll carry with us forever. It was a trip filled with unforgettable memories, bringing us closer as friends and deepening our appreciation for the beauty of the world. Rome truly is the eternal city, where the past and present harmoniously coexist, leaving an indelible mark on all who visit.
